Few movies are masterpieces.  Great movies are often shy of being masterpieces because of one or two areas in which the film just went wrong: miscasting, sloppy editing, cringe-inducing dialogue, awkward tone etc…

I've always found it fruitful (and fun) to take an "almost-masterpiece" and try to figure out what small changes could be made to make the film really shine.

For example: I think Kill Bill could've been improved thematically if the Bride was never able to kill Bill. Or if In Time had employed voice over narration, its preposterous dialogue might have felt safely distant. Soderbergh's Solaris needed merely to re-cast its protagonists and refrain from shooting the male nude erotically and the tone would've fit the theme much better.

Anyone else felt the urge to play doctor to these kinds of frustratingly flawed films?
