Am a sucker for time travel movies me.  But even if wasn’t I’d have been impressed with Timecrimes.  It’s a perfect example of how to do your first film = keep to a minimum of locations with a minimum of actors, (as in Reservoir Dogs / Dark Star, etc.).

What’s great of course is that even though there’s only 4 actors – the cast is quite larger ’cause it’s a time travel film – we see the same poor schlub again and again caught up in events beyond his control.

Now, it looks like it’s going to be remade, possibly by David Cronenberg.  Cronenberg would be wonderful choice – the material suits him.  But, and Spoiler’s Ahoy here – highlight the following text to read: why do I get the feeling that the ‘Hollywood’ version will be re-written so that it really is his wife who dies, (as seen by Hector 2), and Hector 3 then changes the timestream by substituting Chica del bosque at the end – thereby making Hector an active protagonist rather than someone caught up in a series of immutable events?

Anyhew, regardless of what happens in the remake, the original is great – go see it, it’s at the Belcourt for a couple of more days.
