Hey there The Film Talk listeners, (and hopefully members!), I’ve been very impressed, like you I’m sure, with the good Dr.’s posts of late – blogging from a film set in New Zealand, his prose inspires; these musings on the transcendence of our experience on this tiny globe is some of the best writing I think he’s ever done for the site.
Which puts me in a quandary. My posts seem shallow and short-lived in comparison – especially the one I had planned for today, involving my award for “The Decade’s Most Contrived Plot Device”, (see image above of AMEE – folks who’ve seen Red Planet will know what I mean).
So, what do to?
Well, I’m going to think laterally here – instead of a regular post that would have a hard time competing with Gareth’s, I’m doing something unique in the history of the show. You see The Film Talk is edited – we often have problems while recording, (on occasion we’re too heated in our arguments – other times we just don’t make any sense).
Yesterday we had a different problem – with Gareth down in New Zealand the broadband access was irregular, so we had a hell of time getting a decent ‘line’ to record on. In fact, this episode, 104, wins the prize for most failed attempts at doing the show – the ‘line’ kept dropping and we must have recorded bits and pieces of the episode a dozen times over.
This was so frustrating in fact that when we finally got a decent connection between us, yours truly could not keep it together. So for your interest and amusement, I present to you a short clip of a never revealed ’TFT – Behind the Scenes’, (warning – the link is NSFW):

I love little things like this – and the commentary about the first episodes of TFT make me want to hear them even more (not to hear you guys not get along, but just to see how your relationship has transformed into what it seems to be today.)
Also, I want to throw my vote in for, not every post being an important, highly moving essay. As much as I love those – and I agree Mr. Higgins has been on fire lately – the more light-hearted, or just fun posts also help to give the blog the same flavor that the show has. But, this little peak behind the curtain is nice too.

jett, you make me laugh. (case in point: i'm still chuckling days later about, 'the troublings'. in a word: genius.) and i'm grateful for that.
don't underestimate the power of light-heartedness. i think one of the great things about the show is the balance you guys strike between taking life and the movies seriously and having fun with it.
finally, since gareth's out of earshot all the way over there in NZ, i'll take this opportunity to say, 'i'm so with you on The Fountain' and hopefully avoid causing a ruckus.

Ah OneLittleBird, there is no ruckus; I think The Fountain has its lovers and its detractors, and hopefully the twain shall meet, one of these days ;-)

And of course you're right re: a conversation, not a competition – I think one of the reviews of the show on iTunes gets it right in that Gareth and I both want to do the best show we can and, I think, impress each other – or help each other see things in films that we wouldn't ordinarily have seen.
I always learn new things about the films I've seen after talking to Gareth, and THE FOUNTAIN may be the exception that proves the rule! ;)
i've heard the first episodes of TFT, and i LOVED them all!! but, it's true, things got a little 'heated' at times…ok, MOST of the time ;) but things always eventually worked themselves out!
what? gareth can still hear us all the way over there? seriously. this internet thing is scary. is there nowhere its web of power can't reach?
still, gareth – i'm relieved there's no ruckus my friend, looking forward with expectation to twains meeting (The Fountain may one day prove to be the Hadron Collider of all Film Talk reviews. i plan to wear a bicycle helmet.) and glad in the meantime to witness this exemplary peaceable happiness.
