Great Show, i actually really enjoy Kevin Smith's films. Thought i'd let you know that he actually has a gay brother, strange as it may seem.
Well know of course I feel like an ******e. ;)
I have actually seen more Kevin Smith films than you guys – that's got to be a first! But I agree with what you had to say generally, he does have these moments where he goes beyond my personal taste. Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back though is worth seeing for the appearance of Mark Hamill as the deranged super hero C**cknocker. Oh and a nice little Scooby Doo moment.
Maybe I have a soft spot for his films because I used to have a friend who was the carbon copy of Smith's alter ego Silent Bob. However I must stress that my friend and I didn't hang around outside stores selling dope!

Tom! I don't have a Favourite Listener, of course, because to show such partiality would be against the egalitarian spirit of TFT – but thank you for the endorsement of my Verhoeven story.

Ah! Apologies to Gareth for the spelling error, this is what comes of trying to contribute to the discussion whilst surrounded by four kids at the breakfast table. Maybe I should video my comments in those situations, for added comic effect? My kids would probably upstage me though!
To be honest Jett if you didn't like Clerks or Dogma (which I do) you're not going to Like Jay and Silent Bob Strike back (which had some funny set pieces but not enough to out way the puerile stuff). Maybe try Clerks 2 which is a lot better than J&SBSB but hopefully has sufficiently improved comedic timing and camera work not to annoy you.,
The only Kevin Smith films I've seen to date are Clerks and Jay and Silent Bob…, when I was about 17 or 18. At that point, I understood the humor but much of it was notably unfunny to me. And while much of the social commentary that the film addressed was interesting, it never really fleshed it out, just sort of poked at. Since then, I haven't been able to generate interest for another venture into Kevin Smith's world, despite it being a 20 minute drive from my home.
ps. Gareth, welcome to America. The puritan-porn paradox is just the first in a number of paradoxes/public lies in our society.
Great show guys. I live 5 minutes away from the George Eastman House & I'm taking a class at a local college with one of the curators there. I'll have to see if I can see Fear & Desire sometime. You've got a free place to stay if you ever wanna come up to Rochester & see it!
