Brad Pitt can be so funny, as long as he's not taking himself too seriously… in any case, it's about time someone made good use of his habitually spastic arm movements

    (pre-show comment)

I personally thought Pitt was very funny in this movie…will be curious to hear if Jeff Love/Gary Higgs came to blows in their face-to-face meeting.

  3. The_Baron says:

While that may be the case (Brad Pitt can be hilarious), I think what annoyed me about his role in this is that he was using the same kind of high-pitch whine that Mark Wahlberg was using in The Happening. Also, some of his “words of encouragement” came off more as patronizing rather than good-natured schmuck when talking to Frances McDormand's character. I thought it created kind of a confusing character build.

  4. Tom says:

An hilarious show gentlemen, probably more entertaining than either of the films reviewed.

I agree with Gareth about the Coen brothers' movies. Raising Arizona was their high point and it was down hill from there, with the exception of Fargo. I have two problems with their films; firstly they are too clever for their own good – I think of myself as reasonably well versed in film, but only movie critics (don't take this personally guys) get all their 'oh so clever' obscure movie references – which is probably why so many critics think their stuff is wonderful. My second issue is that I don't give a damn about their characters, which may be fully intentional on their part, but for me if I don't connect in some emotional way with a movie then it's not worth my time, however clever it is.

Rant over, and anyway I got my T-Shirt today so I'm still smiling.

Excitement of doing the show in person

  6. Jenny says:

Maybe you could try a video cast at some point. It seems weird that comments have more content than shows these days. :)

  7. jettloe says:

Plenty of 'content' in TFT 37

  8. Phil says:

Wow – Tom lives all the way across the Atlantic…he has a t-shirt.

    I am a 4 hr drive away. No t-shirt….

  9. jettloe says:

I'll send another one out :(

(unless this is an elaborate scam to get multiple pieces of TFT wear! ;)

  10. jettloe says:

hmm…ok you'll be sent another one as well :)

    Here ya go…

Quick comment about Burn After Reading. I'm wondering about the character Ted, the gym manager. He seemed to be the only character with a moral compass. He wanted nothing to do with the disk, he stated to Linda that he was at one time a priest. The only reason why he broke into Osborne's house was for his unrequited love for Linda and was not only killed, but was bludgeoned to death in public. So, I'm wondering if his character is some kind of statement toward not just the end of, but the public beating of traditional faiths/moral values, or perhaps a collective (negative) view of catholic priests. Not sure, I could be reading into it, it's just a thought. Why add a character like that if it's not going to have a specific purpose or statement?

  13. Phil says:

One of the funniest things to me about that character was his constant defense of the gym he worked for — Just before Malkovich's character finds him in his basement, one of the first things he says is “I don't represent ______” (whatever the Gym's name was) – and was constantly concerned about whether something would be against 'company policy' with regards to the outside shenanigans his employees were involved with.

  14. TimHeaney says:

Well I'm a bit annoyed that (a) the film isn't released over here for another 2 weeks, and (b) you're all throwing out major plot points without a single “spoilers ahoy” – but all this is more than compensated for by the fact that…….MY TFT T-SHIRT ARRIVED TODAY – WOO HOO!

  15. jettloe says:

Glad got the shirt! :) (Phil is still waiting on his!)

+ I know it's tempting but ya gotta stay away from the comments if ya don't want those sweet sweet spoilers! ;)

  16. Phil says:

I'm sorry Tim – I have forgotten the Universal TFT warning – my apologies.

    - Shirtless in Atlanta.

  17. kiley says:
