[...] The Film Talk – Part 27 – Hancock is Wanted! [...]
note to past Jett and Gareth: well, here in the future books are outlawed, replicants and cylons freely walk among us, everyone takes soma and they play that damned ‘brazil’ song everywhere you go…but, having said that, i REALLY want to see Hancock now! and Wanted looked atrocious in the trailer, i’m glad to hear ya’ll watched it so i don’t have to! (or atTEMPTed to watch it ;) )
I must say I agree with the Good Prof. Dr.’s assessment of Hancock, although I was very intrigued by the Maestro’s explanation of it’s themes – which I admittedly did not notice.
I loved the first two-thirds of this movie, but thought they completely fumbled final third.
As far as the rest of the show:
(1) We now have new I-Phones in the future
(2) I love the “Spoilers Ahoy!” ringtone idea…it’s almost as if it’s alerting the recipient of the call that there may possibly be a spoiler coming from the one calling once they answer the phone (“we’ve run out of milk!”)
(3) Journey To The Center of the Earth: “You’ll pray Brendan Fraser never returns!” …that’s a bit harsh, perhaps.
I did not see “Wanted” and you have only confirmed what I already suspected. Terrible movie.
I’m tellin’ ya ‘Spoiler’s Ahoy! Ringtones’ are the way to go!
+ I’m thinkin’ of actually going to see JTTCOTE in 3D – just for the hell of it.
+ Brendan Fraser = the Poor Man’s Hugh Jackman.
Come to think of it Hugh Jackman is the Poor Man’s Hugh Jackman.
maestro! i shall go to jttcote also, though sadly little old belfast appears to be without a 3-d print…
Am not sure sure the extra ‘d’ will add much.
+ am off to see Hellboy 2 tonight – let’s see if we can do a Hellboy2/JTTCOTE double bill!
Ah, you poor gentlemen! You made me feel quite sad by the end of the show. However, it was nice to hear something encouraging about Hancock. I was looking forward to it a lot and then was put off by lukewarm reviews – not that I should be swayed by such things!
And I forgive you for mentioning the ‘Domino’ word, a film so utterly devoid of any merit and so offending of my sensibilities that my blood boils when it is mentioned. Indeed, two hours of my life that I feel thoroughly robbed of. I still ask myself exactly way I stuck it til the end – certainly wasn’t anything to do with Miss One Note Knightley.
Oh my god Domino – since the entire film was shot w/filters/dutch angles/fast cutting etc, when the characters went on a mescaline trip the director had nowhere to go!
Sorry (but not surprised) to hear that Wanted is so terrible – I was so excited about James McAvoy after The Last King of Scotland. Hopefully it’s a blip too small to ruin the lad’s career.
It’s a terrible horrible awful ugly film in all dimensions. As for McAvoy = he’ll be fine! :)
James McAvoy will be perfectly fine – he’s talented and good-looking; the problem for me is that ‘Wanted’ will not ruin anyone’s career. Because it’s just the kind of film that cinematic industrialists love to make.
PS: Not that I want anyone’s career ruined.
‘cinematic industrialists’ is a nice turn of phrase.
Cinema has been industrial for a long time – but now w/flip cams and youtube – it can be something else – almost weightless maybe…
i picked up the phrase from someone else – who compared film artists to cinematic industrialists in an article about brett ratner and brian singer. can you guess which is which?
You know – I’d say both!
I thought I should let you know that this episode hasn’t shown up on the RSS feed yet. Loving the show and the new look!
Cheers for the tip iremonger – had a look and I hadn’t ‘flipped a switch’ on Libsyn properly!
+ glad ya like the new look of the site: we’re also on Twitter and Facebook.
It’s an experiment – we’ll see if the Dear Listener is interested in what Gareth and I are up to and interested in reviewing movies as well on Facebook.
