Well of course now I will have to Google Fionna Flanagan…I have seen neither movie – based on previews I had low hopes for 'Invention of Lying' and high hopes for 'Zombieland' – will probably still see both, but will keep your input in mind.

And hopefully the person behind the concessions counter will try and upgrade me to the “bucket” of piss for just $1 extra (free refills!).

  2. Jett Loe says:

luckily you're misspelling her name – so her images are safe for now!

+ i feel like the bucket of piss comment is going to haunt me forever.

  3. Cole says:

Another superb post guys. I'm hoping we'll get to hear your thoughts on the new film by the Coen Brothers in the near future.

  4. Jett Loe says:

Have no fear Cole – A Serious Man will be featured quite prominently on the show :)

    Dear Jett,

While I thought you were fundamentally wrong about Zombieland and Gareth's child-like wonder and amusement at the movie had me taken aback for a moment or two, I don't think you should be judged solely on the merit of a single podcast episode. That guy was a douchebag.

The thing about it is that you two make an extraordinary pair when it comes to movie reviews. I absolutely loved Inglourious Basterds, but the depth and perspective you showed when reviewing that movie brought my fondness for it to nigh euphoric heights. Point is, I usually find myself agreeing with your views about movies and they result in a greater appreciation for film in general. Keep up the good work and, unmentionable buckets aside, don't let a couple of bad reviews keep you down.

  6. Jett Loe says:

Thanks for your kind thoughts The_Baron – of course the irony of a critic being affected by criticism is not lost on me! :) but i think spazzattack3k did hit upon something – will try not to be so sour or bitter for our upcoming Where the Wild Things are ep!

  7. StanleyRumm says:

If it's how you feel about a movie I for one would much rather you let it all out -whether I fundamentally disagree (eg. Inglorious Basterds) or agree (eg. Watchmen, or haven't seen it but it'll be a cold day in hell before I watch Zombieland either way).
I think it's obvious you love movies. Don't let your standard slip just because many more others might disagree. As long as you can justify your opinion (and you do -which makes it worth hearing at the very least) then there's no reason why your personal taste shouldn't be shared in all its glory.
(Edited to admit I didn't hear the Zombieland podcast yet because I knew I had no interest in the movie -now I'll have to listen to it thanks to all this talk, which I wouldn't have done had you not said what you did.)

  11. [...] if you’ve listened to the last few episodes of TFT you’ll recall the whole ‘Bucket of Urine’ saga in which I made some impolitic comments about those who enjoyed the film [...]
