Finally had the opportunity to see Road to Nowhere. Thanks to TFT for the recommendation - I might have missed it otherwise. It was great to hear the interview with Steven Gaydos after the movie.(I'm also looking forward to watching The Secret of the Beehive, which I have never seen:)

Gareth,

I was waiting for you to leave the rails given your prelim' comments, but I agree with your take on the film.

I just saw it tonight at the Belcourt. It reminds me of a discussion I had on this site with one of your listeners regarding Thin Red Line versus Saving Private Ryan. Another film may eventually grasp more, but no film CAN ever reach further.

This is heroic movie making featuring the best acting we are likely to see in this year of cinema. How can anyone deny the power of this film?

Tree of Life is a flawed gem - as are we all.

*TREE spoilers ahoy*

I understood the movie
to say that a different
brother died than
the one who, it appears,
really did (based on EVERYTHING written about the movie, etc. etc. etc.).
My problem: I liked the chaotic impression of it all based on who I thought died, AND disliked the formulaic handling of who *really* died.
My hope: that this whole question would have been left intentionally ambiguous throughout the movie - sorta like a "Viewer call!"
My big brother died during our childhood years, so maybe this informs my take here - nevertheless, I stand by what I wrote! :) And overall I'm still a little disappointed by how long and clunky this movie felt to me at times.
