Via dana comes this lovely bit of Academy Award history:
Audrey Hepburn winning an Oscar® for “Roman Holiday”
While I appreciate the youthful elegance of Audrey Hepburn in the clip, what interests me more is the ‘remote’ segment with Gary Cooper somewhere in ‘old-time-hollwoody-mehico’. As talked about in this post:
What the Oscars are Planning – Make it Like the Superbowl
the Academy is planning something different this year in an attempt to regain commercial and cultural relevance. I think they should take a page out of Cooper’s book and whisk us via the magic of Satellite to Stars on various locations – adds some glamour and makes us, the rubes at home here in the ‘Depression with Wi-fi’, feel like we’ve genuinely gone behind the scenes of an upcoming production.

P.S. I love the ® that the AMPAS slaps on everything = gotta guard that IP, plus, how nice to see Donald O’Connor in the above clip as well. Make ‘em laugh Donald.
(donald o' connor is so cooool – sighhhh) my fav part of the oscars? the fact that every year – EVERY year for the last MILLION – the winner goes the wrong way ….that nanosecond of insecure panic is worth it every time…
How about the simple, but effective camera work there?
Maybe I'm overstating it, but the whole way Hepburn was shot, from leaving her seat to the slow zoom when she receives her award makes you feel like you're watching a movie. I don't know, there was something different about it.

and i agree, the oscars should attempt to bring back some wonder and glamour about movies themselves – i think the movie watching audience is ready to be 'wow'd' again
