Not Everyone Loves the New 'Star Trek' Movie

enterprise phase 2 Not Everyone Loves the New 'Star Trek' Movie

As discussed in the podcast, Gareth and I are huge fans of the new ‘Star Trek’:

The Film Talk – Part 65 – Star Trek

Yet not everyone out there enjoyed it/found it worthy – in fact there are some folks who despise the pic.  I selected the two below as examples because they both come from people I respect highly – the always cogent and necessary Limmy and the absurdly brilliant Mstrmnd.  First Mstrmnd, (link NSFW):

American Cheese: The Compression Logic of J.J. Abrams

And now Limmy:

You get the sense of real personal injury in these reviews – especially in Limmy’s.

I would take his point re: “the past 40 years didn’t happen” being such an affront, if only the so called ‘canon’ Star Trek didn’t use this time travel device continually and habitually through its history – they’ve been doing it since Day 1, and this makes the new ‘Star Trek’ pic a worthy homage and successor to the past eps and movies.
