“I heard Bob’s doing really good with his used car lot out in Arizona.”
If you see the film you’ll know what I mean.
(P.S. Don’t see the film if you’re in the mood for something new, different, fresh – it’s the oldest Hollywood story in the book – shockingly so).
I told you that you wouldnt like it. :) You, my fiend, are the exact opposite of every other critic.
If anything the movie is a remake of Rocky 6 :)
Dude – IT IS Rocky 6! I mean – it really is Rocky 6. I mean – I assume they just photocopied the script and BANG! instant new movie.
Global “Find and Replace” :)
Exactly – I was shocked to find there was 'a script' – or a script 'written' – I mean – it's Rocky 6…and every other film you can think of with the same theme – not just the same scenes – but the same 'beats' – you knew what the various crises were gonna be and when they were gonna happen – you knew he was gonna be perky the first day on the deli job – and then the next time we see him he'll be sullen and then quit – (and in fact we knew that Mickey was gonna eat something from a container in order to get it to the right weight etc – cause there wasn't one scene in the film that you haven't seen before many many times)
At least there wasn't a stipper with a heart of gold, or a child he had to “reconnect with”… because .. I man, THAT would have really been over the top :)
I am disappointed.
I feel confident that I will love this movie, however.
The difference between this and Rocky 6, is that the wrestler's scenario is altogether plausible. No way was a 60 year old man going to fight an exhibition bout with the heavyweight champion – but in wrestling, it happens all the time.
I'm still holding out hope for this one. (I didn't really like Rocky 6 that much, btw)

yeah but somehow the best movie for ages. the scene with his daughter at the beach, the scene where e has a beer with the stripper, for all it's stereotypes, worn out well trodden story arc, these glimmers of truth, of human frailty and fuck ups are what stays with you…and mickey rourke rocks…
i enjoyed it – but as Gareth says in the show:
