Hey there Dear Listener – had a lovely time blogging/tweeting/facebooking (?) on the set of MOTHER’S RED DRESS today, (see the original post here) – had to travel all the way to a Donut Shop in Ontario but it was worth it. Luckily ‘Red Dynamite’ delivered me to the set without too much trouble, though there was a ‘sloshing’ sound continually emanating from behind the dashboard that was strangely unsettling in a HP Lovecraft kind of way.
Anyhew – had a lovely time on the set – let’s look at some snaps shall we?
At the top of this post we have the lovely Alexandra Swarens – whenever the camera rolled, (well…was turned on? told to go? whatever they say in our new digital age in which I can shoot hi-def on my iPhone), Alexandra’s face became cast in the expression you see at top – pensive? Whatever it is it’s miles from what seems to be Alexandra’s normal temperament - I love that difference between the actor and the person – makes you think that the craft of acting is really at its core a way of exposing the masks we all wear as a means of surviving life in society.
The photo directly above is of Lara Solanki – the on-set photographer. Check out that bad-ass blimp she has for her camera!, (necessary on a shoot – the on-set photographer doesn’t just get the kind of ‘behind-the-scenes’ shots you see here but images that can be used in promotional campaigns, posters, stills, etc. – the cameraperson needs to be able to shoot in absolute silence so as not to have the sound of the shutter recorded on the audio track – hence Lara’s bad-ass blimp.)
I had a quick look at Lara’s work online – she’s a great stills photographer – if you want to use her on your next shoot you can contact her at her website here:
Ms. Solanki also does wedding photography – with her boyfriend as partner on the shoot – which I think is a great idea, having a couple work on your wedding is a fantastic way to get a whole range of viewpoints captured. You can see her wedding and event photography here:
Now on any shoot, (unless you’re making a student film), you’re gonna have the ‘grizzled old timer’. You know the type – he’s been on a hundred shows – seen everything, once told Kubrick to go screw himself, etc. On MOTHER’S RED DRESS we have the guy above. Just look at that experienced gaze, that utility jacket probably stuffed with wires, rulers, soldering irons – whatever you need on set. Just look at those weathered hands that…
…oh wait a minute.
He’s just some guy that accidentally wandered on set looking for a coffee.
Never mind.
The young man above is Tim Driscoll – a lead, (along with Alexandra), on the show. Future star with a long career ahead of him? Or washed up at twenty-five? We cannot say at this point Dear Reader. What we can say though is that Tim is eager and easy on the eyes with a winning smile – I say to you producers of the new PREDATORS movie – if you could cast Adrian Brody as an action star surely you can give young Tim a chance in the sequel – look at that smile below – I’m talking Tom Cruise here!
And if he doesn’t work out then just focus on the Predators, that’s all people wanted to see anyway.
Well that’s all for now Dear Reader – I’ll be back on the set of MOTHER’S RED DRESS soon – perhaps with a ribald tale or two. You can follow my days on the set by following The Film Talk on Twitter and Facebook:
