Shock!
Surprise!
Can you imagine the Academy Awards giving Best Picture to a documentary?
Of course not – but that’s what the The British Academy of Film and Television Arts has done – just moments ago:

Prof. Dr. Gareth Higgins will be happy of course – he loves Man on Wire, while I think it’s a well made, yet workmanlike, portrayal of an artist. Click below to hear our analysis of the pic:

Whilst not surprised Slumdog took best film but not best british film (same last year with Atonement/This is England and previous with The Queen/Last King of Scotland) I thought Hunger would be the one to slip through.
we'll see what happens at the oscars – surely Slumdog will win best picture -
It certainly must be the clear favourite after the GGlobes and Baftas. Man on Wire should have a good chance at best documentary but I have to admit it's the only one in the catagory I've seen.
Saw they gave Terry Gilliam the fellowship award. Great to see him recognised as the unique talent he is – makes an even bigger joke of the fact he has such a hard time raising budgets!
