I love, love, love the idea of putting the beginning of films online, (analogous to the success of Doom perhaps? = give the first level away free then charge for the rest). So am excited that the first three minutes of Francis Ford Coppola’s ‘Tetro’ are now online:
First thoughts:
* What camera system was ‘Tetro’ shot on? It looks fantastic – the images are rock steady and precise.
* Leading on from the above – will the generations of movie goers raised watching film projected onto a screen see/feel these modern pictures as just super-clear, crisp video?
* The film is theatrical, stagy – but not in a bad way – it feels like opera, (and how wonderful would it be to see a Coppola directed opera projected in hi-def onto your local cinema screen?).

For more ‘Tetro’ goodness here’s Coppola talking about the project from his home office.
‘Tetro’ is in theatres July 11th.
