I’ve spoken about CURSE OF THE CAT PEOPLE on a couple of episodes. It’s an extraordinary picture that hasn’t had anywhere near the exposure it should have – it’s easily on a par with TIDELAND in it’s absurdly accurate portrayal of the imaginative and important dream life of children. In fact I’d say it’s as good as THE WIZARD OF OZ.
There I’ve said it.
And visually it’s one of the most beautifully shot films I’ve seen – look at the image above – that screengrab alone is worth more than the last couple of Tim Burton pics put together.
More images after the break.

Beautiful movie. Maybe I’m in a minority of one here, but Val Lewton’s masterpiece, in my eyes, is ‘The Curse of the Cat People’. Also the best ghost story in the history of movies.
I agree – what a beautiful pic! Though i’ll have to disagree w/you about TIDELAND – one of the best films that sees the world through a child’s eyes, (TREE OF LIFE does this well also)
I almost forgot (*I* don’t think it’s going too far!) — I loathe ‘Wizard of Oz’ and ‘Tideland’, at least compared to this stroke of genius.
