I'm glad you guys liked Brooklyn's Finest. I'm shocked so many other critics are dismissing this interesting picture.
The biggest problem is that they hid behind the 3D element. It's a weird, weak story. There are some solid performances but the fact remains that there is no heart to this tale. As much as I thought Avatar was a shit story, it was a solid shit story. This was just nasty and boring (and violent for no reason).
Perhaps watching this – ” Johnny Depp in Burtonland http://tinyurl.com/yf3tb6z “, will fill in some of the stuff that happened after you walked out.
Cheers Tim! Though after a Tweet from a listener I've decided to watch the rest of ALICE – details forthcoming in a new episode :)
Really great that you mentioned the Jan Svankmeyer (spelling?) version of Alice. I saw it as a teenager and it really made an impression on me – like nothing I'd ever seen before. Highly recommended, but I don't know how available it is. I don't have a copy of it myself, but I think clips can be seen on Youtube.
