Benjamin Button Special Effects – The Uncanny Valley was Crossed – Shame The Film was Rubbish

As we mentioned on the show:

The Film Talk – Part 46 – The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and the Best Films of 2008

there’s no question that The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is a digital effects triumph, (at least when it comes to Brad Pitt’s CGI head; we don’t believe in that boat for a second – see framegrab below).

The problem is that the film itself is rubbish.  Watching the ‘show reel’ above it becomes apparent how much more interesting the film would have been if they had just kept Pitt’s head at ‘wireframe’ stage.  It would have been the story of what, a robot from the future, living in New Orleans?  Or progress the film from wireframe to full flesh gradually, scene by scene…his friends love makes him human?  I don’t know.  Anything would have been an improvement.

so wait….if brad pitt gets a piece of that sweet sweet oscar action, is he going to just keep the head and give the body to the other guy? (this movie disturbs me on so many levels..and i haven't even seen it!)

  2. jettloe says:

yeah that's the thing – for the first 50 minutes Benjamin's body was played by other folks so….saw the Oscar width-wise and give out the pieces perhaps!?!?

  3. Phil says:

Jett, you are wise as King Solomon.

I have the feeling Pitt would accept the chopped up Oscar.

The movie have a big chance to take an Oscar for Visual Effects …

but Brat Pitt have no chance to get an Oscar for his acting !

  8. Jett Loe says:

You're right Shero of course – and it deserves to win for Visual Effects…as for for Brad Pitt's acting…guess we'll see :)

Of course Leo we will wait and see …

But I am sure He will not take the Oscar because his acting was
not life and not in front of Camera and if he take an Oscar it will be
a prove that Hollywood want to run from it and it is ( CGI will replace
Actors in future) that is why he will not take it . But of course we will see ! :-)

But I am surprise when you wrote that the movie is Rubbish !!?
    Why is that ?

I think the movie it pretty good and it will be challenging Slumdog Millioner
for best Picture for sure .

With my respect for your thoughts But It is just my thoughts too :-) .
