[I'll be introducing 'The Messenger' at its 7:30 Premiere this Friday here in Nashville at The Belcourt Theatre]

In this week’s action-packed, adrenaline-fueled thrill-ride of an episode Gareth and I talk with actor Ben Foster about his experience of making the extraordinary new film The Messenger’, why he wants listeners to write a romantic comedy for him, and the quality of Woody Harrelson’s grass.  Richard Kelly’s ‘The Box’ is reviewed, we count down our favourite films from our 100 shows;  even though it may be a mistake, an excerpt from our first episode is exhumed, and as part of ‘Operation Save The Film Talk’ we offer free iTunes Movie Documentaries to the first four listeners who become TFT Members this week.

Great show, fellas. Loved the Ben Foster interview. He truly is a great OTG performer. I also just watched The Messenger this past weekend, thanks to the local film festival going on here in my hometown. And for as much as I loved Foster's performance, I kind of think that the movie was stolen right out from under him, by Woody Harrelson. His performance starts off with that caricaturistic “bravado” and coolness, that we learn is just a facade. (And Woody Harrelson asking if you IM, is priceless) But, that last scene in Foster's apartment, and how Woody reacts to his story, THAT is what made that movie for me. Well, that and Steve Buscemi – who I agree with you (Jett) that this is probably his best performance since either Ghost World or possibly his role on The Sopranos.

And just to continue with the end of the episode, and the ass-kissing segments. I've thoroughly enjoyed your show. I've told all of the limited number of people I know about the show. And it makes me sad to see the fundraiser bubble hovering at the bottom of the funds needed; and more specifically, the number of days/weeks left til the probable end of the show. (not to be a 'glass 3/4 empty' kind of person)

But, I'll keep listening to the end – or forever, and then when I finally get around to seeing Andrei Rublev, the opening theme to the show will play in my head and I will either think, “Jett was right”, or I won't. (It's currently #8 on my Netflix queue. For some strange reason, I feel that I have to see the movie, Crank, before Tarkovsky's movie.)

  5. Jett Loe says:

Yes of course Harrelson is superb – and like I mentioned on the show “can you think of a bad Woody Harrelson performance?”*

    *2012 doesn't count – it's sui generis

  6. The_Baron says:

I can say that I wasn't a fan of his performance in The Grand, but that could be blamed on poor script writing and lack of character development.
