Seldom Seen review | A Cold Night’s Death
With our ever-present infomachines spouting media at us constantly it often seems that there’s no surprises left – everything’s been unearthed/no more movie gems out there to find. Imagine my delight Dear Listeners when I watched ‘A Cold Night’s Death’ – a TV Movie from the early 70′s, starring Robert Culp and Eli Wallach no less!
This short pic is a masterclass in low-budget tension – there’s not a shot wasted, and it’s full of genuine skill in terms of camera movement and placement.
Eli and Robert are the only men stationed on a remote scientific testing station when strange things begin to happen…and…well I won’t say anymore. It’s all on YouTube for you to watch – amazingly it looks like YouTube user monster4josh has pointed a video camera at a TV screen and recorded the late night movie – this distancing quality only adds to the level of pic creepiness.
As for the shocking conclusion…umm…I’ve seen a lot of movies. A lot of movies. And yet I didn’t see this ending coming. I’d argue it’s impossible to see it coming as it’s beyond human experience – and the reality of it would drive any man mad, but that’s a post for another time.

I still get a chill at the thrill of seeing this one when I was a teen. Great TV movie (a rare thing indeed). Can we PLEASE get a good-quality, legitimate DVD of it released?

Don’t know Glenn – I suggest trying Google.
