It's one of the richest learning experiences of my life, a genuine privilege and pleasure. I've learned so much about what I didn't know I needed to learn :)

Hi John – the writer-director couple partnership are two of my dearest friends, and I've been an eager fellow-traveller with them since the novel was adapted into a script; so I'm here helping in any capacity I can, but mostly writing the blog and being on set to lift things if necessary. Are you just there as an onlooker, or as an actual part of the production?

As a possible, future filmmaker (my dreams of actually going to a film school have been squashed, but a number of great creators that I adore didn't actually go to school for it either - and really in our current environment, with DVD's, websites, and Amazon to purchase books, who needs to spend all that money on film school.) The experience with the feature I've been working with, has been a learning experience in the difficulty in finding financing, and actually a little bit of the drawbacks of people making a movie that aren't really familiar with technology. But, I'm definitely still enjoying it.

May I ask, what your involvement with the movie has been? Hope the feature you're connected with will be similar for you.

Hi John – thanks so much for the kind words; I definitely find that travel creates the conditions for me to do a very different kind of writing; and being with these good folks making Insatiable Moon is one of the richest learning experiences I've ever had. I also have become involved with a feature, this past year. Though, I've actually signed on to pretty much do anything they'll let me do - which so far has been stuff already part of my trade, such as designs for their investor's packages and helping in design their website - but, it's amazing to be around a group of people that are all focussed on not only making something, but making something together.

"Cinematic reality" is a great phrase, and really fitting to the life of a film enthusiast. I'm so (some would say obsessed) infatuated with movies, that I can be driving and see the environments as if it's being filmed. I become self-conscious when I realize I'm relating something important or trying to make an argument, by quoting or describing something from a movie. But, that's the magic of movies, they're all pervasive, and their reality can be as real or influential as our own.

I don't know if that's the same meaning you got from that encounter - but that's what I took from reading it as your words. Keep up the great work, and hope you enjoy your last bit of time in NZ. :)

I love reading about these experiences – and honestly being in an environment like that, is part of why I think your writing has been so amazing lately (not that it isn't great at other times).
