re: 'doing my readers a disservice' – that's why I used the word 'sounds' in 'this sounds like a recipe for dire cinema' – as I have not seen the film – (in the statement I was referring to the idea of communal movies) –

as for the actual film itself – The trailer originally referenced in the post makes the film look like any other industry product – the teaser trailer is more interesting, yet still consists of people running around in dark corridors with blood splattering everywhere, hence my 'same old same old' comment – I do hope the actual film is better than the publicity material and look forward to seeing it when it comes out :)

Tom, Craig Singer (the director of Perkins 14), and most ALL directors, control EVERYTHING that goes on in a movie. I guess you aren't very familiar with the industry at all. :(

I think the writer of this article didn't delve into what Perkins 14 is really about at all. If you want a good teaser about the movie, check this out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1i7qxcJQSP8 The movie looks good, the synopsis is original, the actors are excellent in the lead roles. Shayla Beesley, who plays Daisy Hopper in P14, just went to Deauville for the premiere of her first feature film, "Sex and the USA" last year. So, I think you should maybe review this movie and not just jump to a conclusion based on a few bits of information you gleaned from Wikipedia. You do your readers a disservice.

Communal Movies

Yup, looks like any old cheap horror flick to me!

I think the best cinema is created when a person's single vision is stuck to (or at least as much as you are able to, since the act of making a film is a collaboration).

But there are always exceptions. The first that springs to my mind is the fact that George Lucas had to collaborate on the original Star Wars films, he handed over directing duties, had Ford telling him that his dialogue could be written but not spoken etc. With the prequels however you get a real sense that he was in control of EVERYTHING and I don't need to point out how they turned out as a result.
